AmeriCorps
Habitat CFC has been privledged to
work with a number of teams of young people over the past few
years that came to help our organization through the AmeriCorps
NCCC program.

AmeriCorps is a national service
initiative that is part of the larger USA Freedom Corps that
works to mobilize citizens to take part in community service.
AmeriCorps NCCC was modeled as a
domestic version of the Peace Corps, and a modern version of the
CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps). NCCC is a specific
program of AmeriCorps where people ages 18-24 serve for a year,
and are placed on a team that completes service projects
throughout a geographic region. Our teams have come from
the campus based in Perry Point, MD.
In 2005-2006, AmeriCorps NCCC took
on an active role in recovery efforts after Hurricaine Katrina,
providing direct service to families and communities in the gulf
coast region. Many of the teams that have worked with
Habitat CFC this year also spent time in the gulf, and we
applaud their efforts to rebuild in the gulf.
