Volunteer
Habitat volunteers come from all
walks of life to help build houses, work in our offices and
connect families to needed resources. While our
construction sites are often the first place people envision
helping, we can use help from people in many capacities.
If you don't feel comfortable
swinging a hammer, you can still help build houses and stronger
communities.
By volunteering at the
ReStore:
The ReStore is open Tuesday through
Saturday from 10:00AM to 6:00PM and from 10:00AM to 7:00PM on
Thursdays. It is located at 1785 Stratford Avenue in Stratford,
CT.

Construction
Build Days:
A typical day:
We work on our construction
sites Monday through Saturday from 8:15 to 3:30.We ALWAYS meet at our
warehouse to start the day: 10 Maple Street, Bridgeport, CT 06610. From
there, we will send you to whatever site we need you at that day.
Please be sure to have your own transportation. There is a break for
lunch around noon and each volunteer (or group) is responsible for
lunch, snacks and water for the day. You may bring your own or eat at a
local diner or restaurant.
Current build sites:Currently,
all sites are on the east side of Bridgeport. We hope to begin building
in Stamford this fall.
Age requirements:
All volunteers must be at least 16 years or
older to volunteer with us.
Youth 16-17 must be
accompanied by an adult who is 21 years or older for the entirety of the
volunteer day. We require a youth to adult ratio of 4:1. For every
four youth under 18 we require one chaperone who is 21 years or older.
To
schedule as an INDIVIDUAL:
Please be sure you have read over all of the
information listed under “Construction Build Days”. If you are
interested in scheduling a construction work day, contact Greta Bush,
Volunteer Services Manager, via e-mail at
volunteer@habitatcfc.org at least two weeks before you would like
to volunteer. Please include the following information:
1)
Your name
2)
List any skills you have (if
any)
3)
What days you are interested
in volunteering
You will receive an e-mail confirming the
dates that work with our schedule along with a volunteer information
form that we need you to fill out and return via mail, fax, or in
person.
To schedule for COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS:
Please be sure you have read over all of the
information listed under “Construction Build Days” as well as the
information listed under “To schedule as an INDIVIDUAL”. In addition to
the responsibilities of an individual volunteer, yours also include:
1) Before
your first day of community service is scheduled you must submit a copy
(via fax or mail) of a letter from the organization requesting the
community service hours stating the reason why you are required to
complete them. The letter must include by when and to whom confirmation
of your hours will go upon completion of your service.
2) Also
needed is a copy of a photo id.
3) Contact
Greta Bush, Volunteer Services Manager, at
volunteer@habitatcfc.org at least two weeks before you would like
to volunteer. She will send you verification of receipt of your
paperwork and will send you more detailed information regarding
volunteering with us and recording hours worked.
To schedule as a NON-CORPORATE GROUP:
We are currently booking
groups on Saturdays approximately 5-6 months in advance. Weekdays are
more readily available.
If you would like to
schedule a workday for group please e-mail Greta Bush, Volunteer
Services Manager, at
volunteer@habitatcfc.org and include the following information:
1) Your
top three possible work dates for your group.
We will confirm your date according to availability. Please do not
confirm the date with your group until you receive confirmation of your
reservation from Greta.
2) The
number of volunteers you would like to bring:
a.
There is
no minimum number of volunteers required and a maximum number of 40
volunteers per week day can be accommodated depending on the task.
If you come with a large group, your group may be split into smaller
groups, depending on the need at our work sites.
3) Comment
as to how many youth 16 and older are included in the group.
You will receive an e-mail confirming the
dates that work with our schedule along with a volunteer information
form that we need every volunteer to fill out and return via mail, fax,
or in person.
To
schedule as a CORPORATE GROUP:
We are currently booking
groups on Saturdays approximately 5-6 months in advance. Weekdays are

We ask for a donation from the company to
go with the employee volunteers of $200 per volunteer. For a half day
build, we ask for $100 per volunteer. This is about the cost of the
materials used on site by one volunteer in one day and will help us make
sure we have the materials on site so that your volunteers can build.
This is a requested donation; we need both funding and volunteers to
build but we can be flexible. As a non-profit organization, our 501c3
