Final Steps
After a family completes 400 hours of sweat equity they
will be offered the next available house that is
suitable for the size and composition of their family,
generally within 6 to 12 months of completing 400
hours. Once a family accepts a house, building should
be completed within 6 months. Families will be offered a
maximum of 3 houses. A family has the option of waiting
for another house, but, each time they turn down a
house, the family will move to the bottom of the list of
those who have completed 400 hours. If a family
declines 3 houses, we believe they no longer have real
need of better housing and they will be dropped from the
program. To be considered in the future, a family must
repeat the application and selection process.

There are several workshops including Budgeting, Home
Maintenance, and Conflict Resolution given by the
Partnering Committee that future homeowners must attend
before becoming homeowners. The workshops are held on
Saturday mornings and will count toward the total number
of hours. Future homeowners will be notified of the
workshop schedule. When a home is available and
accepted by the family, they will be assigned a Partner
from the Partnering Committee who will help with the
details of becoming homeowners. We try to match
families with houses that are suited for them. Most of
our houses are on the East Side and in the East End of
Bridgeport.
